Why is it better to give birth in a hospital?

Giving birth is a momentous event in a woman’s life. It is a time when she is physically and emotionally vulnerable, and when her health and the health of her baby are at stake. Unfortunately, Pregnant women around the world face many dangers. They risk their lives every day just by carrying a child. In fact, according to the World Health Organization, roughly 830 women die from pregnancy or childbirth-related complications every day. That’s one every two minutes. 


What are the advantages of giving birth in the house?

There are many reasons why pregnant women may choose to deliver at home. They may want a more natural birth experience or they may want to avoid the cost of a hospital delivery. Other women may not have access to transportation or live too far from a facility.


Importance of hospital delivery

However, delivering at a health facility is the best way to ensure a safe delivery for both the mother and the baby. Health facilities are staffed with trained professionals who can provide the necessary care and attention in case of complications.  Health facilities provide a clean and safe environment for childbirth and a skilled attendant to provide quality care. Women who deliver in health facilities are also more likely to receive timely care for complications during pregnancy and childbirth, and their babies are more likely to receive skilled care and vaccinations. 


There are many dangers of home birth, for both the mother and the baby. The most common complication during childbirth is bleeding. Other complications include infection, retained placenta, and obstructed labor. 


Pregnant women should deliver in health facilities for their own safety and the safety of their babies.
